Only the parents are responsible for a child's education. Neither the church nor the state nor any corporation can be trusted to act in the child's behalf. If parents can act as beastly as some parents do, imagine how a religious leader, a politician or a CEO can treat a child.

In my experience, teachers who try to console students in trouble lower students' expectations of success by comments like "Don't worry about that test. I was never any good at math either." This derogation of math by teachers continues into college as well, with insecure colleagues in the arts and languages the worst offenders.

The apologists for Bush will say "Oh, that's water over the dam (or under the bridge)". The Democrats have controlled congress for almost three years and have done little to rein in Bush and Cheney. I guess they're waiting for the Nuremburg court to be reconvened.
